Troy Andrews, known professionally as Trombone Shorty, is scheduled to perform at the New Jersey Performing Arts Center (NJPAC) in Newark, New Jersey on October 23, 2026. Andrews is a contemporary jazz, funk, and soul artist rooted in New Orleans music traditions. His performances blend elements of trombone playing—often incorporating virtuosic solos—with trumpet work and energetic stage presence. He draws heavily from his upbringing in the Tremé neighborhood of New Orleans, a historically significant area for African American music and culture, and incorporates influences from jazz, R&B, hip-hop and rock into his sound.
The New Jersey Performing Arts Center opened in 1997 as part of a larger urban revitalization effort for Newark. Designed by architect Philip Johnson, the center features multiple performance spaces including the Prudential Hall – a large theater designed for broadway-scale productions, concerts and other events – along with smaller venues suitable for more intimate performances. NJPAC serves as a major regional arts hub and aims to provide access to diverse artistic programming while contributing to the economic and cultural vitality of Newark and the surrounding communities. It is a non-profit organization supported by private donations and public funding.
