Tõnu Kaljuste, a highly regarded Estonian conductor, will perform at Omari Küün on Naissaar Island on July 1st, 2026. Kaljuste is known for his interpretations of contemporary choral music, particularly works by Estonian composers such as Arvo Pärt, Veljo Tormis, and Jaan Rääts. His conducting style often emphasizes clarity of texture and a deeply expressive approach to vocal performance, contributing to the global recognition of the “Estonian Sound.” He has worked extensively with leading choirs internationally, including the Estonian Philharmonic Chamber Choir which he co-founded and led as artistic director for many years.
Omari Küün is a historic lighthouse located on the northern coast of Naissaar Island in the Gulf of Finland. Originally constructed in 1860, it served as a crucial navigational aid for ships entering Tallinn Bay. The lighthouse ceased functioning automatically in 1994 but has been preserved and restored. It holds significance as part of Naissaar’s military history; during both World War I and World War II, the island and the lighthouse were strategically important locations, experiencing extensive damage during conflicts.
