Tom Skinner, a British drummer and composer, will perform at the Cotton Club in Chiyoda, Tokyo, on July 17, 2026. Skinner is recognized for his work with the post-punk band Sons of Kemet and the jazz-influenced group The Smile, alongside Radiohead’s Thom Yorke and Jonny Greenwood. His solo work explores a diverse range of musical territories, often described as blending jazz drumming with electronic music, improvisation, and elements of broken beat and IDM. He frequently utilizes sampling and looping techniques to create complex rhythmic textures.
The Cotton Club in Tokyo is a long-standing live music venue with a history rooted in American jazz. Originally established in 1963, it was modeled after the famed Harlem jazz club of the same name – though operating independently – aiming to introduce American jazz to a Japanese audience.
