Tigran Hamasyan will perform at Brisbane Powerhouse on October 21, 2026. Hamasyan is an Armenian pianist and composer whose music blends Armenian folk melodies, jazz improvisation, and elements of progressive rock and classical music. His compositions often feature complex rhythmic structures and virtuosic piano playing, drawing on both his classical training and deep roots in Armenian musical traditions. He frequently incorporates traditional Armenian instruments and *maqam* – a system of melodic modes – into his work, creating a distinctive and highly acclaimed sound.

Brisbane Powerhouse is a significant arts and cultural venue located in New Farm, Brisbane. Originally built as a power station between 1927-1958 to supply electricity for the city’s tram network, it ceased power generation in 1985. Following a period of disuse and advocacy for its preservation, the building was redeveloped and opened as a multi-arts centre in 2000. The venue now houses multiple performance spaces including theatres, concert halls, galleries, and restaurants. It hosts a diverse program encompassing contemporary music, theatre, dance, visual arts, comedy and film screenings.
