Tigran Hamasyan is an acclaimed Armenian jazz pianist and composer, known for his unique blend of traditional Armenian folk music with contemporary jazz and progressive rock elements. Born on July 17, 1987, in Gyumri, Armenia, Hamasyan began playing piano at the age of three and quickly displayed exceptional talent.

Hamasyan's career took off when he won the prestigious Thelonious Monk International Jazz Piano Competition in 2006 at the age of 19. This victory brought him international recognition and opened doors to collaborations with renowned musicians such as Chick Corea and Herbie Hancock.

His musical style is characterized by intricate rhythmic patterns, virtuosic improvisation, and a deep exploration of Armenian folk melodies. Tigran often incorporates extended techniques on the piano, including percussive strikes on the strings and unconventional use of pedals, creating a distinct sound that pushes the boundaries of traditional jazz.

Throughout his career, Tigran Hamasyan has released numerous critically acclaimed albums. His debut album, "World Passion," was released in 2006 and showcased his exceptional piano skills combined with a youthful energy. Subsequent albums like "A Fable" (2011) and "Mockroot" (2015) further solidified his reputation as an innovative artist who fearlessly merges genres.
