Stephen Bruner, known professionally as Thundercat, is scheduled to perform at The National in Richmond, Virginia on October 17, 2026. Thundercat’s music blends elements of jazz fusion, funk, soul, and electronic music, often featuring complex basslines, intricate arrangements and philosophical or introspective lyrical content. He gained prominence initially as a session musician, collaborating with artists like Erykah Badu and Flying Lotus, before establishing a successful solo career with albums including *Drunk* and *It Is What It Is*.

The National is a historic performing arts center located in Richmond’s Church Hill neighborhood. Originally constructed in 1923 as a Vaudeville theatre – initially named the Loew's National Theatre – it hosted a diverse range of performances including stage shows and film screenings. Following a period of decline and closure in the late 20th century, the venue underwent extensive renovations completed in 2008.

Today, The National operates as a multi-purpose event space accommodating concerts, theatrical productions, film screenings and private events. Its architecture reflects an eclectic blend of styles including Beaux-Arts and Art Deco influences.
