On April 15, 2027, Thomas Søndergård will conduct a concert at Caird Hall in Dundee, United Kingdom. Søndergård is a Danish conductor known for his interpretations of Scandinavian composers – particularly Sibelius and Nielsen – alongside core repertoire works. His conducting style is often described as possessing clarity, emotional depth, and a meticulous attention to orchestral detail. He currently serves as the Principal Conductor of the BBC National Orchestra of Wales and has held similar positions with orchestras in Minnesota and Aarhus.
Caird Hall forms part of the City Chambers complex in Dundee city centre and opened in 1914. Designed by James Thomson, it’s recognised for its Baroque revival architecture and significant acoustic qualities. The hall was a gift to the city from James Caird, Jute Baron and philanthropist, following the death of his wife, Agnes. Originally conceived as a multi-purpose venue, it quickly became established as a premier concert hall within Scotland due to its acoustics and capacity – seating approximately 2,000 people. Throughout its history it has hosted a wide range of performances including classical concerts, political rallies and popular music events.
