Experience The Tannahill Weavers live on September 6th

The Tannahill Weavers are scheduled to perform at The Square Tower in Portsmouth, United Kingdom on September 6th, 2026. The group is renowned for their energetic and virtuosic performances of Scottish traditional music. Their repertoire encompasses a broad range of styles within the genre, including lively reels, jigs, and emotive ballads, frequently incorporating vocals in Gaelic and Scots. Formed in the 1970s, they’ve become internationally recognised ambassadors for Scottish folk music, known for their instrumental prowess featuring instruments like the fiddle, accordion, guitar, and bagpipes.

The Square Tower itself is a significant historical landmark in Portsmouth. Originally constructed in 1491 as part of the city’s fortifications under Henry VII, it is one of the oldest surviving structures in Portsmouth and the last remaining complete medieval tower of its kind. Over its history it served various purposes including a prison and a signal station. In more recent times it has been restored and repurposed as a unique events venue, retaining much of its original character with exposed brickwork and limited modern amenities reflecting its age. The tower offers an intimate setting for performances due to its relatively small capacity and distinctive circular shape.
