The Philly Pops is a professional orchestra dedicated to presenting orchestral music in accessible and innovative ways. Their repertoire broadly encompasses popular music arrangements, Broadway show tunes, film scores, and classic American songs, often featuring guest vocalists and thematic programming. The ensemble aims to broaden the appeal of orchestral music beyond traditional concert hall audiences.
The Met Philadelphia, originally built as the Metropolitan Opera House and opened in 1908, is a historic opera house located on Broad Street. Designed by William H. Balch, it was specifically constructed to rival New York’s Metropolitan Opera and quickly became a significant cultural landmark in Philadelphia. Throughout its history, The Met has hosted a diverse range of performances including opera, ballet, concerts, vaudeville shows, and films.
Significant renovations have occurred over the years; most recently a comprehensive restoration completed in December 2023 revitalized the venue while preserving its original architectural details and grandeur. The building features ornate Beaux-Arts architecture with a lavish interior known for its gilded detailing and impressive acoustics. It remains one of the largest performing arts venues in Philadelphia and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
