Experience The Count Basie Orchestra live on December 21st
The Count Basie Orchestra will perform at the Cambridge Corn Exchange on December 21, 2026. The orchestra is renowned for its powerfully swinging big band jazz sound, characterized by tight ensemble playing, dynamic arrangements, and a strong rhythmic drive. Originally founded by pianist Count Basie in 1935, the orchestra gained prominence during the swing era and continued to evolve through various jazz styles, incorporating blues, gospel, and even touches of funk while maintaining its signature energy. Following Basie’s death in 1984, the orchestra has continued under various leadership, preserving his musical legacy and adapting to contemporary influences.
The Cambridge Corn Exchange is a historic venue dating back to 1904. Initially constructed as a corn exchange – a marketplace for grain trading – it was converted into a theatre and variety hall in 1906. Throughout its history it has hosted a diverse range of performances including music hall acts, opera, ballet, and contemporary music concerts. The building underwent significant refurbishment in 2006-2007 which restored many of its original architectural features while modernizing facilities.
