Opernhaus Dortmund opened in 1964 after its predecessor was destroyed during World War II. The building itself is a significant example of post-war German architecture, designed by Paul Röhmer. It’s noted for its relatively compact size – seating approximately 776 patrons – which fosters a particularly intimate connection between performers and audience. The venue hosts opera, ballet, and orchestral concerts and is home to the Theater Dortmund, encompassing opera and ballet companies alongside concert performances. The Opernhaus Dortmund underwent extensive renovations between 2007 and 2010 to modernize its technical capabilities while preserving its architectural integrity.
