The Opernhaus Dortmund opened in 1964, designed by architects Wilhelm Henze and Karl-Heinz Grosse. It’s a significant example of post-war German architecture, notable for its functional design and relatively minimalist aesthetic compared to more ornate opera houses. The building underwent extensive renovation between 2007 and 2010, modernizing its technical capabilities while preserving its original architectural character.

The Opernhaus Dortmund is home to the Theater Dortmund which encompasses opera, ballet, drama and concert performances. It holds approximately 768 seats and serves as a key cultural venue within the city of Dortmund and the wider North Rhine-Westphalia region.
