Hélène Grimaud, a French pianist renowned for her deeply expressive and often introspective interpretations, will perform at the Opernhaus Dortmund on February 25, 2027. Grimaud’s repertoire is broad, spanning from Bach and Mozart to Romantic composers like Rachmaninoff and Skriabin, as well as contemporary works. Her playing is frequently characterized by a lyrical quality, technical precision, and a notable emotional intensity; she is also known for her advocacy for wolf conservation alongside her musical career.
The Opernhaus Dortmund opened in 1964, designed by architects Wilhelm Henze and Karl-Heinz Grosse. It’s a significant example of post-war German architecture, notable for its functional design and relatively minimalist aesthetic compared to more ornate opera houses. The building underwent extensive renovation between 2007 and 2010, modernizing its technical capabilities while preserving its original architectural character.
The Opernhaus Dortmund is home to the Theater Dortmund which encompasses opera, ballet, drama and concert performances. It holds approximately 768 seats and serves as a key cultural venue within the city of Dortmund and the wider North Rhine-Westphalia region.
