Hassalo Plaza is a public gathering space located in the Lloyd District of Portland. Completed in 2019, the plaza was developed as part of the larger Hassalo on the Commons project, aiming to revitalize the area surrounding the MAX light rail station. Designed by ZGF Architects, it features a flexible open space intended for community events, including concerts, farmers markets, and art installations. The plaza’s design incorporates sustainable features such as rainwater harvesting and native landscaping. It’s named after Howard Hassalo, a prominent figure in Portland’s urban development history who advocated for pedestrian-friendly spaces and public access. The plaza is managed by the City of Portland Parks & Recreation.
