The Opera House, located on Queen Street East in Toronto, has a long history as a performance venue. Originally built in 1909 as a vaudeville theatre and cinema, it operated under various names including The Empire Theatre and The Danforth Music Hall before becoming The Opera House in 1989. It’s known for its intimate standing-room general admission format and has hosted a diverse range of musical acts spanning genres like rock, punk, metal, hip-hop, and electronic music. The venue retains much of its original architectural detailing including ornate plasterwork and a balcony seating area though this is rarely used for concerts.
