Tenebrae, a highly regarded British vocal ensemble, will perform at Wigmore Hall in London on December 11, 2026. The group is known for its interpretations of Renaissance polyphony, particularly the works of composers such as Thomas Tallis, William Byrd, and Josquin des Prez, but their repertoire extends to encompass a broad range of choral music from the 16th to 21st centuries. Tenebrae is distinguished by its precise intonation, expressive phrasing, and commitment to historically informed performance practice. Founded in 2001 by former choral scholar Nigel Short, the ensemble has gained international recognition for its recordings and concert performances.

Wigmore Hall holds a significant place in London’s cultural landscape. Opened in 1901, it was originally designed as a private concert hall for the German-born pianist Bechstein. It quickly became renowned for its exceptional acoustics and intimate atmosphere – seating approximately 544 people – making it ideal for chamber music and vocal recitals. Unlike many larger venues, Wigmore Hall maintains a strong focus on artistic quality over grandeur; it does not have any corporate branding visible within the hall itself.
