Little Island, located in Hudson River Park at Pier 55 in Manhattan, New York City, is a unique public park built on concrete pilings known as “tulips.” The structure was designed by Heatherwick Studio and opened in May 2021 after years of development and overcoming significant financial hurdles. Originally conceived as Pier 54 by Barry Diller and Diane von Furstenberg, the project faced numerous challenges including legal battles concerning its environmental impact and construction methods.
