Spoon is scheduled to perform at The National in Richmond, Virginia on July 6, 2026. The band, formed in Austin, Texas in 1997, is generally categorized as indie rock, though their sound incorporates elements of post-punk, art rock, and Britpop. Characterized by tight arrangements, minimalist instrumentation, and Britt Daniel’s distinctive vocals and songwriting, Spoon has cultivated a reputation for consistently evolving while maintaining a recognizable core aesthetic. They have released nine studio albums to date, earning critical acclaim and a dedicated following.

The National is a historic performing arts center located in the Church Hill neighborhood of Richmond. Originally constructed in 1923 as a movie palace—initially named the Loew’s Metropolitan—it operated as a cinema for several decades. Following a period of disuse and deterioration in the late 20th century, the building underwent extensive restoration completed in 2008.

Today, The National functions as a multi-purpose venue hosting concerts, theatrical performances, film screenings and other events.
