The Camel has been a prominent fixture in Richmond’s music scene since its establishment in 2012. Originally operating as a food truck before transitioning into a brick-and-mortar venue, it quickly became recognized for showcasing both local and touring acts across diverse genres. Located in the Carytown neighborhood, the venue is characterized by its intimate setting and commitment to supporting independent music. It features two distinct performance spaces: an indoor stage and an outdoor beer garden which frequently hosts shows. The Camel has hosted artists spanning indie rock, hip-hop, electronic music and experimental sounds, solidifying its reputation as a crucial platform for emerging and established musicians alike. It underwent a period of relocation and rebuilding following a fire in 2021 but reopened at its current location in 2023.
