Special EFX, a contemporary jazz ensemble prominent during the 1980s and 90s, will perform at the Colored Musicians Club Of Buffalo NY Inc. on July 25, 2026. The group’s sound blends elements of smooth jazz, funk, and R&B, characterized by intricate instrumentation featuring synthesizers, saxophone, and a strong rhythmic foundation. They gained recognition for their instrumental compositions and contributions to the Quiet Storm radio format.

The Colored Musicians Club Of Buffalo NY Inc. holds a significant place in American music history. Founded in 1918, it was established as a local chapter of the American Federation of Musicians, initially providing a space for African American musicians to network and perform during a period of racial segregation when mainstream musicians’ unions excluded Black artists. The club served as a vital hub for nationally renowned jazz musicians like Louis Armstrong, Ella Fitzgerald, and Nat King Cole who were often unable to find performance venues elsewhere due to discriminatory practices. It remains one of the oldest continuously operating jazz clubs owned and operated by African Americans in the United States and continues to support live music and musical education within the community. The building itself is a designated historic landmark.
