Designed by local architectural firm RSP Architects Planners & Engineers in collaboration with Michael Wilford & Partners, its distinctive design—often likened to a durian—aimed to create a uniquely Singaporean landmark.

The complex houses multiple venues including the Concert Hall, typically used for orchestral performances like this SSO concert, and the Theatre which hosts musicals and plays. It was conceived as a national performance space intended to foster local arts and culture while also attracting international acts.
