Experience Siglo de Oro live on December 19th
Siglo de Oro will perform at St John’s Smith Square, London, on December 19th, 2026. The ensemble specialises in historically informed performance practice of Spanish Baroque music, primarily from the 17th and early 18th centuries – the period known as the “Spanish Golden Age” (Siglo de Oro). Their repertoire focuses on vocal and instrumental works by composers such as Juan Hidalgo, José de Nebra, and Antonio Literes, often incorporating dramatic and expressive qualities characteristic of the era. The group is recognised for its research-led approach to recreating authentic soundscapes of the Spanish court and religious institutions.
St John’s Smith Square is a former church consecrated in 1728, designed by Christopher Wren’s assistant, Thomas Archer. Originally built as a parish church for the burgeoning population of Westminster, it ceased being a functioning church in 1941 following bomb damage during World War II. Subsequently, it was meticulously restored and re-opened in 1951 as a concert hall. The hall is renowned for its exceptional acoustics and intimate atmosphere, making it a favoured venue for chamber music, choral performances and recitals.
