Sarah Vaughan, often called “Sassy” and “The Divine One,” was a highly influential American jazz vocalist known for her virtuosic vocal range, improvisational skill, and distinctive phrasing. Her style blended bebop, swing, and pop influences, demonstrating a remarkable ability to interpret standard songs and create unique arrangements. Vaughan’s repertoire spanned diverse genres, showcasing both lyrical sensitivity and dynamic scat singing. She earned four Grammy Awards during her career and remains a pivotal figure in jazz vocal history.

The concert is scheduled to take place at the New Jersey Performing Arts Center (NJPAC) in Newark, New Jersey on November 22, 2026. NJPAC opened in 1997 as part of Newark’s revitalization efforts and is the state’s largest performing arts center. Designed by architect Robert Venturi, the complex includes the Prudential Hall – a 2,200-seat theater – alongside smaller performance spaces like the Victoria Theater and the Chamber Hall.
