Experience Santtu-Matias Rouvali live on October 19th
Santtu-Matias Rouvali is a Finnish conductor known for his dynamic and insightful interpretations of both classical and contemporary repertoire. His conducting style is often described as possessing a compelling energy and a focus on clarity, bringing a fresh perspective to familiar works while championing lesser-known composers. He currently serves as Chief Conductor of the Philharmonia Orchestra and holds similar positions with the Sinfonieorchester des Bayerischen Rundfunks.
The concert on October 19, 2026, will be held at the Corn Exchange, Bedford. Originally built in 1808 as a marketplace, the building was significantly reconstructed in 1888-89 by George Devey, resulting in its current Victorian appearance. Throughout its history, it functioned primarily as a commercial centre for grain trading; however, by the late 19th century it began hosting public events alongside its market functions.
In more recent times, Bedford Borough Council undertook a major refurbishment completed in 2017, transforming the Corn Exchange into a multi-purpose arts venue. The restored building now hosts a diverse program including theatre, music performances, comedy shows and community events while retaining many of its original architectural features.
