Sam Thousand will be performing at the Little Black Pearl Art and Gardens gallery in Chicago, Illinois on August 3, 2026. Sam Thousand’s musical style blends elements of jazz, soul, and hip-hop, often incorporating spoken word and poetic lyricism. His work frequently explores themes of Black identity, community, and personal narrative, delivered with a distinctive vocal approach and instrumentation that includes both traditional and electronic sounds.
The Little Black Pearl Art and Gardens holds significant cultural importance within Chicago's South Side. Founded in 1973 by Jacqueline Marie Evans, the gallery began as a haven for young people seeking artistic expression and mentorship. Originally housed in a dilapidated building, Evans transformed the space into a vibrant center for art education and exhibition. The gallery’s focus is on showcasing the work of African American artists and fostering community engagement through art programs. It has served as an incubator for numerous emerging artists over its history. In 2011, the gallery moved to its current location in Kenwood, continuing its mission within a renovated historic building that also features a community garden space. The organization continues to operate as a non-profit dedicated to arts education and cultural preservation.
