Experience Sababa 5 live on September 15th
Sababa 5 is scheduled to perform at the Philadelphia Museum of Art’s contemporary art space, Philamoca, on September 15, 2026. The group performs a distinctive blend of Middle Eastern funk and psychedelic rock, drawing heavily on Israeli grooves from the 1970s while incorporating modern influences. Their sound features prominent use of analog synthesizers, driving basslines, and complex rhythmic structures.
Philamoca, officially known as the Perelman Building, functions as an extension of the Philadelphia Museum of Art. Opened in 1972 following a significant gift from Raymond and Katherine Perelman, it originally housed the museum’s library and study collection. Over time, its function evolved to primarily showcase rotating exhibitions of contemporary design, craft, and decorative arts – often presenting work that complements or challenges traditional museum collections. The building itself is a Brutalist architectural example designed by Giorgio de Luca and Norman Lachenmeyer. It provides a flexible exhibition space distinct from the main museum building on Benjamin Franklin Parkway. Recent years have seen Philamoca increasingly host performances and events alongside its visual art displays.
