Ron Carter will be performing at Birdland Jazz Club in New York City on October 21, 2026. Carter is a highly influential bassist renowned for his work across multiple jazz styles, prominently including post-bop and hard bop. His playing is characterized by melodic improvisation, a rich tone, and a distinctive harmonic approach. He gained prominence as a member of Miles Davis’s Second Great Quintet during the 1960s, alongside Herbie Hancock, Wayne Shorter, and Tony Williams, and has since led numerous ensembles and collaborated with a vast array of artists. Throughout his career he has recorded over 2,500 albums – either as a leader or sideman – making him the most-recorded jazz bassist in history.
Birdland Jazz Club holds significant historical importance within the jazz world. Originally opening in 1949, it quickly became a legendary venue hosting performances by Charlie Parker, Dizzy Gillespie, Count Basie, and many other iconic figures. The original club closed in 1965 but was revived in 1986 in a new location on West 44th Street where it continues to operate today.
