Roderick Williams is a British baritone renowned for his interpretations of English song and opera, alongside a significant commitment to contemporary music. His vocal style is often described as possessing clarity, warmth, and expressive depth, equally comfortable in lyrical passages and dramatic roles. He frequently performs with leading orchestras and opera companies internationally, and is also a respected composer in his own right.
St John’s Smith Square is a former church, consecrated in 1728, and now operates as a concert hall celebrated for its exceptional acoustics. Originally built as one of twelve new churches commissioned by Act of Parliament to serve the growing population of Westminster, it underwent significant restoration in the 1950s after suffering damage during World War II. The hall's intimate size – seating approximately 560 – contributes to its particularly resonant sound, making it highly favoured by vocal and chamber music performers.
The building retains many original features including its Baroque architecture and historic organ, creating a unique atmosphere for performances. It has become known as a key venue for classical music in London, hosting a diverse programme encompassing choral works, recitals, and instrumental ensembles.
