Rhiannon Giddens is a prominent American musician celebrated for her expansive exploration of American roots music. Her work draws deeply from the banjo – an instrument she plays with virtuosic skill – and encompasses genres including folk, blues, jazz, and traditional African-American music. Giddens frequently centers narratives of Black Americans within her performances and recordings, bringing to light often-overlooked histories and musical traditions. She’s a MacArthur Fellow and a Grammy Award winner, recognized for her scholarship as well as her artistry.

De Oosterpoort, located in Groningen, Netherlands, is a significant cultural venue with a history rooted in the city's social and artistic life. Originally constructed in 1984, it was designed by architect Cees Dam and initially functioned as a pop music hall. Over time, its programming broadened significantly to include a diverse range of performances encompassing classical music, world music, dance, theatre and spoken word.
