The Gretchen C. Valade Jazz Center opened in 2022 as part of the Detroit Center for Innovation (DCI), a partnership between the University of Michigan and the Detroit Economic Growth Corporation. The center is dedicated to the preservation and celebration of jazz music and serves as a performance venue, educational space, and community hub. It’s named in honor of Gretchen C. Valade, a significant philanthropist and long-time supporter of jazz in Detroit. The venue features state-of-the-art acoustics designed specifically for optimal jazz performance experiences and aims to foster both established artists and emerging talent within the genre.
