The Rascher Saxophone Quartet will perform at the Opernhaus Dortmund on November 7, 2026. This ensemble is internationally recognized for its virtuosic performances and innovative approach to chamber music. Their repertoire spans a broad range, encompassing original compositions written specifically for the quartet, transcriptions of classical works – frequently from composers like Bach, Handel, and Debussy – and contemporary pieces pushing the boundaries of saxophone performance. The quartet is known for its precise intonation, dynamic control, and expressive interpretations, often blurring the lines between classical and jazz influences.

The Opernhaus Dortmund opened in 1964 after its predecessor was destroyed during World War II. Designed by architect Paul Röhricht, it is a significant example of post-war German architecture and a key cultural venue in the Ruhr region. The building’s design emphasizes functionality alongside aesthetic considerations, featuring a horseshoe-shaped auditorium providing good sightlines from most seats. It is home to the Theater Dortmund which encompasses opera, ballet, drama and concerts. The Opernhaus underwent extensive renovations between 2007-2010 to modernize its technical capabilities while preserving its architectural integrity. It holds approximately 768 seats.
