Polyrhythmics is a Seattle-based ensemble known for their instrumental funk and soul music, often incorporating elements of jazz, Afrobeat, and psychedelic sounds. Formed in 2001, the band cultivates a dynamic live performance reputation built around tight arrangements and improvisational interplay between its members. Their compositions typically feature layered rhythms, prominent horn sections, and driving basslines.

The Spanish Ballroom At Elks Temple in Tacoma, Washington, holds a significant place in the city’s cultural history. Originally constructed in 1916 as an Elks Lodge, the building quickly became renowned for its grand ballroom which hosted numerous dances and social events. The Spanish Ballroom specifically gained prominence during the mid-20th century as a popular venue for big band performances and touring musicians; it was particularly well-known for hosting Latin music and dance nights, hence the name.

Over time, the building experienced periods of decline but underwent restoration efforts in recent years to preserve its historical character. It continues to function as an event space hosting a variety of performances and gatherings while maintaining many of its original architectural details including ornate plasterwork and a sprung dance floor.
