Classical Concerts in London

Experience Pieter Wispelwey live on July 11th

Pieter Wispelwey will perform at Wigmore Hall in London on July 11, 2026. Wispelwey is a Dutch cellist internationally recognised for his deeply considered interpretations and technical mastery. His performances are noted for a rich tonal palette, a willingness to explore unconventional repertoire alongside standard works, and a scholarly approach to musicology informing his playing. He frequently performs solo Bach suites and has commissioned numerous new works for the cello, expanding its contemporary repertoire.

Wigmore Hall holds a significant place in London’s cultural landscape. Opened in 1901, it was originally built as the Bechstein Hall, intended to showcase pianos manufactured by C. Bechstein. It quickly became renowned for its exceptional acoustics – consistently ranked amongst the best in the world – and intimate setting, seating approximately 544 people. Unlike many larger concert venues, Wigmore Hall does not have an orchestra in residence and focuses exclusively on chamber music, song recitals and solo performances. Throughout its history it has hosted performances by virtually every major classical musician of the 20th and 21st centuries and remains a highly respected venue for serious musical performance.
