Paquito Cruz is a Mexican singer-songwriter recognized for his contributions to *música sinaloense*, specifically a modernized and romanticized take on the traditional band music of Sinaloa. His style incorporates elements of mariachi, banda, and norteño, often featuring prominent accordion and brass arrangements alongside lyrical themes centered around love, heartbreak, and everyday life. He gained prominence as the vocalist for Banda Carnaval before establishing a successful solo career.
El Cantoral is a significant cultural venue in Mexico City, originally constructed as a recording studio in 1978 by the IMP (Instituto Mexicano del Fonograma). It quickly evolved into a space dedicated to showcasing Mexican music, becoming renowned for its exceptional acoustics and intimate atmosphere. Throughout the 1980s and 90s it hosted performances by many of Mexico’s most important artists across diverse genres – from traditional ranchera to contemporary pop.
The venue underwent renovations in recent years to improve facilities while retaining its original architectural character. El Cantoral continues to function as a concert hall and cultural center, prioritizing the promotion of Mexican musical heritage and supporting emerging artists alongside established names.
