Osaka Philharmonic Orchestra will perform at Osaka Festival Hall on September 25, 2026. The orchestra, founded in 1941, possesses a broad repertoire encompassing standard orchestral works from the Baroque period through contemporary compositions. It is known for its interpretations of Romantic and 20th-century music, frequently collaborating with both Japanese and international soloists. The orchestra maintains a commitment to commissioning new works and promoting Japanese composers.
Osaka Festival Hall, opened in 1958 to commemorate the 700th anniversary of the founding of Osaka’s Shitennoji Temple, is a significant cultural landmark in the city. Designed by architect Masaharu Tanaka, it was one of Japan’s first modern concert halls built specifically for orchestral performance and boasts renowned acoustics. The hall has hosted numerous internationally acclaimed orchestras and musicians throughout its history and remains a central venue for classical music in Western Japan. It is noted for its distinctive architectural style blending traditional Japanese elements with modern design principles and features a large pipe organ installed in 1963. The hall underwent significant renovations completed in 2024 to further enhance its facilities.
