Omar Sosa will perform at the Musical Instrument Museum (MIM) in Phoenix, Arizona on July 16, 2026. Sosa is a Cuban-born pianist, composer, and bandleader known for his innovative blend of Latin jazz, Afro-Cuban rhythms, and elements of classical music, electronic music and world music traditions. His compositions often incorporate improvisation and explore themes of spirituality and cultural identity. He frequently utilizes a diverse range of instruments beyond the piano, including percussion and vocals.
The Musical Instrument Museum, which opened in 2010, is dedicated to celebrating the diversity of musical expression globally. Its collection comprises over 8,000 instruments and associated objects from more than 200 countries and territories. The museum’s exhibits are organized geographically, allowing visitors to experience how instruments relate to cultures and histories around the world. MIM features five main galleries representing Africa, Asia, Europe, Latin America and Oceania alongside a rotating selection of temporary exhibits. The facility also includes a 300-seat performance hall designed with acoustics suitable for a wide variety of musical genres – the space where Sosa will be performing. The museum aims to foster global understanding through the universal language of music.
