Formed in Leeds in 2011, Nubiyan Twist has grown from a student collective into a recognised touring act known for its dynamic live performances and collaborative spirit, frequently incorporating vocalists and instrumentalists from diverse musical backgrounds. They have released albums on labels like Brownswood Recordings and Mr Bongo, garnering critical acclaim for their innovative arrangements and rhythmic complexity.

The Jazz Cafe itself opened in 1990 and is located in Camden Town, London. Originally established by musician Ron Tomson and journalist Jean-Paul “Bluey” Maunick (of Incognito fame), the venue has become a significant fixture on the London jazz scene and beyond. It’s known for its intimate setting – a converted furniture warehouse – and commitment to showcasing both established artists and emerging talent across jazz, soul, funk, world music and related genres.
