Nobuyuki Tsujii, a Japanese pianist recognized for his deeply expressive and technically brilliant performances, will appear in concert on August 8, 2026, at Ryutopia City Performing Arts Center in Niigata Prefecture. Tsujii gained international acclaim after jointly winning the gold medal at the 2009 Van Cliburn International Piano Competition. His repertoire spans a broad range of composers, from classical masters like Chopin and Rachmaninoff to more contemporary works, often characterized by a lyrical quality and nuanced interpretations despite being born with congenital visual impairment.
Ryutopia opened in October 2018 as Niigata City’s primary concert hall and a key component of the city’s arts and culture promotion initiatives. Designed by renowned architect Takahiko Yanagisawa, the center features a large hall with approximately 1,007 seats and a smaller hall accommodating around 450 people. The main hall is noted for its excellent acoustics achieved through careful attention to shape and materials – specifically utilizing locally sourced wood – aiming to enhance the natural resonance of musical performances. Ryutopia aims to be an inclusive space fostering artistic creation and community engagement within Niigata Prefecture and beyond.
