Nobuyuki Tsujii, a Japanese pianist recognized for his deeply expressive and technically brilliant performances, will perform at Brick Hall in Nagasaki Prefecture on October 10, 2026. Tsujii’s repertoire spans a wide range, encompassing classical masters like Chopin and Rachmaninoff, alongside contemporary works. He is particularly noted for his emotive interpretations and a distinctive playing style developed despite being born visually impaired. He gained international acclaim after winning joint first prize at the 2009 Van Cliburn International Piano Competition.
Brick Hall is a historical building originally constructed in 1897 as the Nagasaki Prefectural Industrial Hall, designed by German architect Wilhelm Böhm. Built utilizing locally produced red bricks – hence the name – it served as a significant center for industrial promotion during the Meiji era. Following damage during World War II, it underwent restoration and now functions primarily as a cultural venue hosting concerts, exhibitions and other events. The hall’s architecture represents an important example of Meiji-era Western-style construction in Japan, retaining many original features alongside modern upgrades to accommodate performances. Its acoustics are considered favorable for chamber music and solo recitals.
