yaam, located on an historically significant site on the Spree river near the Oberbaumbrücke, began as an open-air market in 1994 initiated by a collective of African artists and entrepreneurs. Originally intended as a space for showcasing and selling art and crafts from Africa, it quickly evolved into a multifaceted cultural center. Throughout its history, yaam has become known for its commitment to promoting intercultural exchange and supporting artists from the African diaspora. The venue frequently hosts concerts, workshops, film screenings, and other events focused on African and Afro-Caribbean culture.
