Subterranean is a long-standing music venue located in the Lincoln Park neighborhood of Chicago, specifically at 2011 N. Lincoln Ave. Originally opened in 1978, it quickly became a central hub for the city’s burgeoning punk and new wave scenes. Throughout the 1980s and 90s it hosted numerous influential alternative bands before undergoing renovations in the early 2000s. The venue currently operates with both an upstairs main room offering a larger capacity and a downstairs club space providing a more intimate setting. It continues to showcase a diverse range of musical genres including rock, indie, hip-hop and electronic acts, maintaining its reputation as a vital part of Chicago's live music landscape.
