Experience Monteverdi Choir live on September 18th
Monteverdi Choir, renowned for its historically informed performance practice, will perform at Alexandra Palace in London on September 18, 2026. The choir, founded by John Eliot Gardiner in 1964, specialises in early music – particularly vocal works from the Renaissance and Baroque periods. Their interpretations are characterised by rigorous scholarship, a focus on clarity of texture and phrasing, and an attempt to recreate the sound world as it would have been experienced by the original audiences. They frequently perform the works of Claudio Monteverdi, from whom the choir takes its name, alongside composers such as Bach, Handel and Purcell.
Alexandra Palace, often known as Ally Pally, opened in 1873 as a public space intended to serve both entertainment and education for Londoners. Originally conceived as “The People’s Palace”, it housed a concert hall, a picture gallery, a reading room and extensive gardens. Significant for being the first building in the UK to regularly broadcast television transmissions in 1936 (though these ceased during WWII), it has hosted numerous events throughout its history including concerts, exhibitions and sporting competitions.
