Maxim Emelyanychev, a Russian countertenor renowned for his virtuosic technique and adventurous repertoire choices, will perform at the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam on January 20, 2027. Emelyanychev’s style blends Baroque and contemporary influences, frequently incorporating improvisation and a dynamic stage presence. He is particularly known for his interpretations of Handel and Vivaldi, but also actively commissions and performs new works, often exploring themes of spirituality and human emotion. He frequently leads performances from the harpsichord or organ as well as singing.
The Concertgebouw, opened in 1886, is widely considered one of the world’s most prestigious concert halls. Designed by Pieter Cuypers, its architecture is Neo-Renaissance in style. The hall's exceptional acoustics are a result of its rectangular shape, high ceilings, and use of specific materials – notably the wood used in its construction. Throughout its history, the Concertgebouw has been home to the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, one of the leading orchestras globally. It regularly hosts internationally acclaimed soloists and ensembles across a broad spectrum of classical music genres.
