The Sinclair opened in February 2012 as a music venue and restaurant conceived by independent promoter Bowery Presents. Located in Harvard Square, the venue occupies a historic building previously housing the York Theatre. Designed with a focus on sightlines and sound quality, The Sinclair features a relatively intimate capacity of approximately 525 standing or 350 seated attendees. It has become a notable stop for both established and emerging artists across various genres, consistently hosting performances spanning indie rock, alternative, and electronic music. The space also includes a ground-floor restaurant and bar area separate from the concert hall itself.
