The London Symphony Orchestra (LSO) Chamber Ensemble will perform at the Ruth Williams Opera House in San Francisco on August 14, 2026. The ensemble is a flexible grouping of LSO players, typically performing works originally scored for smaller forces or arrangements of larger orchestral pieces. Their repertoire spans several centuries, encompassing Baroque concerti grossi, Classical serenades, 20th and 21st-century compositions, and arrangements showcasing the individual brilliance of orchestral musicians in a more intimate setting. The ensemble is known for its precision, expressive playing and versatility across musical periods.

The Ruth Williams Opera House, located within the Herbst Theatre complex in San Francisco’s Civic Center, has a history rooted in supporting local arts organizations. Originally built in 1932 as part of a larger civic auditorium project, it was renamed in 1987 to honor Ruth Williams, a prominent San Francisco philanthropist and advocate for the arts. The venue is characterized by its relatively intimate size – seating approximately 900 people – and excellent acoustics which make it well-suited to chamber music performances.
