Lonnie Plaxico is a bassist and composer recognized for his work spanning jazz, blues, and funk traditions. His musical approach is deeply rooted in the hard bop and post-bop idioms, often incorporating elements of spiritual jazz and a strong emphasis on groove. He has collaborated with numerous prominent artists including McCoy Tyner, Carmen Lundy, and Wallace Roney, and is known for his extensive discography as both a leader and sideman.

Birdland Marina is a relatively new venue located in the Hell’s Kitchen neighborhood of New York City, opened in 2023 as an extension of the historic Birdland Jazz Club. The original Birdland, founded in 1949, was a landmark jazz club that hosted legendary performers such as Charlie Parker, Miles Davis, and John Coltrane. While the original closed in 1965, its legacy was revived with the opening of the current Birdland Jazz Club in 1986. Birdland Marina aims to recapture some of that original atmosphere while offering a more intimate setting than its sister club. The space focuses on presenting established and emerging jazz artists in a waterfront-adjacent location offering views of the Hudson River.
