Long Yu is scheduled to perform at the Xinghai Concert Hall in Guangzhou City, China on July 12, 2026. Yu is a highly regarded conductor known for his energetic interpretations of both classical and contemporary orchestral works, with a particular focus on promoting Chinese composers and musical traditions internationally. His repertoire spans a wide range, including Romantic standards, 20th and 21st-century compositions, and pieces incorporating elements of Chinese folk music. He frequently champions new music and has commissioned numerous works from leading composers.

The Xinghai Concert Hall, opened in 1998, is a significant landmark in Guangzhou and a major performing arts venue in Southern China. Designed by Japanese architect Kisho Kurokawa, it’s notable for its distinctive spherical shape and incorporation of principles of metabolisme – an architectural movement emphasizing growth and adaptability. The hall boasts excellent acoustics and serves as the primary performance space for the Guangzhou Symphony Orchestra, of which Long Yu is currently the Artistic Director. It hosts a diverse program of concerts encompassing orchestral performances, chamber music, opera, ballet, and other musical genres. The hall’s capacity is approximately 2500 seats.
