Long Yu is a renowned Chinese conductor who has significantly contributed to the global recognition of China's classical music scene. Born in 1964, Yu has been instrumental in promoting symphonic tradition in China and is considered a symbol of the country's thriving cultural scene.

Yu graduated from the Shanghai Conservatory and studied under maestros Hans Swarowsky and Leonard Bernstein. His career took off when he founded the Beijing Music Festival in 1998, which quickly became one of Asia’s most prestigious music events. He also serves as Artistic Director of the China Philharmonic Orchestra, which he founded in 2000, and is currently the Music Director of the Shanghai Symphony Orchestra.

Known for his charismatic stage presence and impassioned interpretations, Yu has conducted many internationally acclaimed orchestras including the New York Philharmonic, Los Angeles Philharmonic, BBC Symphony Orchestra, and many others.

Throughout his illustrious career, Long Yu has received numerous awards and accolades. In 2002, he was awarded Montblanc de la Culture Arts Patronage Award for his work with Beijing Music Festival. In 2015, Gramophone magazine named him one of the "Top Ten People Powering Classical Music."

Long Yu’s style is characterized by a blend of Western symphonic tradition with Chinese musical aesthetics. His performances often include works by Chinese composers, reflecting his commitment to promote Chinese music on an international stage.
