Les Métaboles, a French ensemble specializing in historically informed performance of 17th and 18th-century music, will perform at Teatro Juárez in Guanajuato, Mexico on October 4, 2026. The group is recognized for its vibrant and dramatic interpretations of Baroque repertoire, often focusing on lesser-known composers and exploring the theatrical aspects inherent in the music of the period. Their approach emphasizes stylistic authenticity achieved through research into performance practices of the time, utilizing period instruments where appropriate and prioritizing expressive vocal and instrumental techniques.

Teatro Juárez, a prominent landmark within the Alhóndiga de Granaditas complex—itself a former grain storehouse repurposed following its role in the Mexican War of Independence—opened in 1939. Constructed in a Porfirian style reflecting European architectural influences particularly Art Nouveau and Art Deco, it was designed by José Noriega and houses murals by José Clemente Orozco. The theater quickly became a central cultural venue for Guanajuato, hosting national and international performances of opera, ballet, theatre, and orchestral music. Its acoustics are considered excellent, contributing to its reputation as one of Mexico’s most important performance spaces.
