Experience Les Arts Florissants live on November 25th
Les Arts Florissants, founded in 1979 by William Christie, is renowned for its historically informed performance practice of Baroque and early Classical music. The ensemble specializes in French repertoire from the 17th and 18th centuries, including operas, sacred music, and chamber works, but also frequently performs Italian and English compositions of the same periods. Their approach emphasizes detailed research into performance techniques prevalent during the eras of the music’s creation – utilizing period instruments and vocal styles.
The concert will take place at Philharmonie de Paris, a major concert hall complex inaugurated in January 2015. Located in the 19th arrondissement of Paris, it is a key component of the Cité de la Musique. Designed by architect Jean Nouvel, the complex comprises several spaces including the Grande Salle Pierre Boulez – a highly adaptable hall known for its exceptional acoustics – as well as smaller venues dedicated to various musical genres and educational activities. The Philharmonie de Paris was conceived to address a perceived lack of large-scale concert venues suitable for symphonic music in Paris and serves as a national center for musical innovation and preservation. It hosts a diverse program encompassing classical, contemporary, jazz and world music performances.
