Les Arts Florissants, founded in 1979 by William Christie, is renowned for its historically informed performance practice of Baroque and early Classical music. The ensemble specializes in French repertoire – particularly composers like Jean-Baptiste Lully, Marc-Antoine Charpentier, and François Couperin – but also performs works by Italian and English composers of the same periods. Their interpretations are characterized by a focus on ornamentation, expressive vocal delivery, and instrumental textures reflective of the music’s original context. The group comprises both a period instrument orchestra and a vocal ensemble, often featuring rising young singers alongside established artists.
The Philharmonie de Paris, inaugurated in January 2015, is a major concert hall complex located in the 19th arrondissement of Paris. Designed by architect Jean Nouvel, it is notable for its modular Grande Salle, capable of accommodating between 1,400 and 2,400 spectators depending on configuration. The complex also includes smaller performance spaces and rehearsal rooms. It serves as the home of the Orchestre de Paris and aims to be a national center for musical creation and education. The building's acoustics were specifically engineered to provide optimal sound quality for a variety of musical genres.
